Environmental Sustainability Policy

The HAC achieves GOLD

October 2010

The HAC has recently received its second very comprehensive audit from Green Tourism for London and we are delighted to have progressed from Bronze to GOLD. Green Tourism for London commended the HAC for the hard work that the team have put in to greatly improve the environmental performance of the site. The assessor considered the HAC to be an excellent location for green meetings and at the forefront of sustainable events in London.

HAC Environmental Sustainability Policy

The HAC is custodian of six acres of grassed grounds at the heart of the City of London and is committed to maintaining the quality of this environment both for those that work at the HAC, its clients and the wider community. The HAC has had an ongoing tree planting policy since 1996.

The HAC has invested in 15000 acres of grassland in the Brecon Beacons National Park and is committed to the preservation and sustainable management of this valuable environmental asset.

The Prince Consort Rooms has been built with high level insulation both in the floor and in the roof. Natural materials have been used wherever possible.

The HAC takes its responsibilities seriously and undertakes to take significant and lasting steps to minimise adverse environmental impacts and to conserve natural resources in its activities.

The HAC has an active policy of recycling wherever possible:

  • All waste is recycled appropriately including bottles, paper, cardboard, cooking oil and wet waste. All the HAC's suppliers and clients are encouraged to do the same.
  • Paper recycling bins are placed in all meeting rooms when in use.
    • The HAC seeks to minimise the use of non-renewable resources
    • Monitor and analyse energy usage with the aim of reducing consumption where possible.
    • The HAC holds regular meetings to raise environmental awareness amongst staff and others.
    • Avoids unnecessary water usage.
    • Avoids unnecessary distribution of printed paper.
    • Will make its best endeavours to ensure that cleaning materials are biodegradable and environmentally friendly
    • Encourages the use of public transport for event attendees.
    • Has an active planned maintenance programme to reduce the environmental impact of activities within the HAC and conserve energy where possible.

    This policy is reviewed regularly.
